The Selection and Placement Requirements of Aquarium Rock Decor.

The Selection and Placement Requirements of Aquarium Rock Decor.

The choice of aquarium rock decors generally focuses on four aspects: shape, quality, color, and grain. The shape refers to the beautiful shape and form, which should be full of aesthetic feeling; the quality refers to the hard and healthy texture, so as not to cause negative impacts on the water quality; the color refers to the purity of color, which should be very harmonious and natural with the other decorations of the aquarium; the grain refers to the texture on the stone, which looks very smooth but not disorderly. In addition, it should be noted that smooth and round stones rather than those with sharp edges and corners must be selected, so as not to hurt the fish when they swim among rocks.

At the same time, the placement of stones should also be paid attention to. Like the bottom sand, the stones should be cleaned before placing (stones in the field that are not clean or with snails and moss should not be put into the fish tank).

When placing aquarium rock decors, many novices like to put them directly on the bottom sand. In fact, it is improper because the stones on the bottom sand will move due to the flow of water or slight movement of the aquarium, which will damage the whole landscape of the fish tank. Therefore, generally speaking, it is better to have a part of the rock buried in the bottom sand, so that it can be placed more stably. Moreover, it can also reflect the natural landscape washed by water flow, which is more realistic. The embedding posture can also be determined according to the shape and texture of the stone. For example, some stones lie horizontally, some stand upright, and some lean.

Of course, most aquariums will not be decorated with only one piece of aquarium rock. A few or a dozen rocks should be arranged according to the size of the aquarium. The rocks can be arranged into landscapes according to personal preference, such as plates, ridges, and peaks, stone forests, etc.

When placing aquarium rock decors, it is best to follow the principle of being numerous but not chaotic and being less but not boring from the perspective of beauty. The number of placed stones should not be too large, and there should be a key position to make the scene artistic. Generally, 3-5 stones should be selected, and it is better to have the main stone with good shape among them. It should be noted that the main stone should be on one side of the aquarium (the position of the golden section ratio). Then select a few small stones and put them in order from high to low and from large to small, so as to highlight the main stone and create a natural landscape. However, the gap between the rocks should not be too narrow for the safety and comfort of the fish when swimming through the stones. Finally, planting some low water plants(foreground plants) among the rocks can create a landscape that is similar to that of the natural mountain river bottom.
